Overall the mod will work for a while but it will break things sooner or later. That will make it run hotter as well and it will eventually fail. Also the 5v regulator will have to work harder since it now has to bleed the 18v to 5v instead of the normal 9v to 5v. The battery will also discharge very quickly. The new regulator will get very hot since it is always bleeding down the voltage from 24v to 18v. I looked at the design and this mod adds an 18v regulator to the 24v battery.
I had my engineer look at the mod that estabanF posted and here is what he has to say about it. I don't want to criticize the guy without knowing the facts, but like I said I would wait until it has been verified by someone else first. Perhaps he is busy with work or family and just hasn't had time. It makes me think that perhaps the board did eventually fry. If you ask me I find it odd that shortly after claiming success with this mod and promising to post pictures the guy disappeared. Unless the poster of this mod ever gets back to us I would not suggest attempting it unless someone more knowledgeable can verify that it works. They are only made in certain voltages.Īny other specs you can find online, by searching the part number. If you needed a different voltage such as 12, 09, 08, 05 volts, then the part number would have that for the last two numbers.

the part number is a LM78xx series device, and the 18 in the part number is the voltage output. It has an input, which would be battery voltage, (higher than the output voltage), a common ground, and an output, which is 18 volts. The LM7818cv is a 18 volt self contained voltage regulator. The specs on the resistors, you can use 5% or 10% tolerance, 1/4 watt rated, at the ohm values shown. Thru this forum, people have had trouble with running above 15 volts, I beleive they are not using this setup. Looking at the schematic, its seems to be an ok setup, and has the right idea. The author of this will have to chime in to better help here. I do not own a Blackbird, so I do not know how well this works. If you could really help me I will greatly appreciate it and if I need a new potentiometer for the solenoid and info on that. also I need to know what LM7818cv is and the exact specs on it. so I need to know the exact parts I need and the exact specs of them so I can order the right ones.

I read your diagram on modding the BB board to withstand a higher voltage and I want to know if I do all those Mods will they really work and not fry my board? and What are the exact specifications of the resistors that I need to order? because there are like 20 ohm 5% tolerance at 1/4 watts. Looking forword to hearing back from you. English is not your first language so this is a little difficult.
