Castle Dour will be to the left, guarded by Imperial soldiers. To join the Imperial Legion, the Dragonborn must travel to Solitude and find General Tullius in Castle Dour, which is found by following the path up the ramps. Hadvar suggests that the Dragonborn join the Legion at the end of Unbound if he is followed during the escape from Helgen. Similarly, they are in good relations with the Black-Briars of Riften while the Silver-Bloods of Markarth support the Stormcloaks. This has led to tensions between the clans in neutral Whiterun. However, they have the support of the influential Battle-Born clan, also in Whiterun. Because of this, the Legion is also at odds with the influential Gray-Mane family, an old and renowned Whiterun clan, whose views oppose those of the Empire of Tamriel.
The Stormcloaks are at odds with the Imperial Legion, as self-proclaimed liberators of the Nordic people. The Legion is comprised mostly of Nord and Imperial legionnaires and Legates, though there are Breton and Redguard legionnaires, along with Altmer, Dunmer, and Breton Legates. The Dragonborn may join and fight to keep Skyrim in the Empire. The Imperial Legion in Skyrim consists of local militia and Imperial Legionnaires and is based in Solitude. With the near annihilation of the Blades and the emergence of the Aldmeri Dominion as a military power, many view the Legion as corrupt and decaying. Once the strongest fighting forces in Tamriel, the Imperial Legion has been reduced to a mere shadow of its former self by the time of the events of Skyrim. The Imperial Legion believes that they can only restore peace to Skyrim and the Empire by killing Ulfric and quelling his rebellion. Some accuse Ulfric Stormcloak of orchestrating the Stormcloaks' rebellion as a selfish ploy to set himself up as Skyrim's next High King. Most Imperial supporters believe that Skyrim and the Empire must remain united in order to fend off the Aldmeri Dominion if a second war with them erupts. Though the Empire has appeased the Aldmeri Dominion's demands, the Imperial Legions in Skyrim claim that the Empire has little love for the Dominion. If any legionaries are believers of Talos, such as Legate Rikke who is implied to be a believer, they keep their religion to themselves and pray to Talos discreetly and out of earshot. Though most do not approve of the White-Gold Concordat, they nevertheless allow Thalmor Justiciars to enforce the ban in order to preserve the peace between the Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion. The more options to role-play, the better.Įventually, I plan to re-write the main quest for the College of Winterhold too, just for a goof. The main idea for this is to explore the meaning of having your destiny set in stone, and what are the decisions a character would make knowing that ultimate power is within grasp, what allegiances would accept, what friendships would break and what backs would stab. My vision for this main quest revolves around the player’s ability to choose from a larger pool of factions (the Greybeards, the Blades and the Thalmor), to make decisions that would hurt (or completely destroy) some factions, and to introduce a new female character with her own questline the player can marry. With Alternative, I sought to try my best at writing something I would like to play, because I love stories and I find the plot of the main quest misplaced, the way it forces me to comply with choices my character would not make from the very beginning, a minus to what is otherwise my favorite game and the one I spent most of my gamer time playing. Lots of factions are negated (like the Thalmor) in favor of factions that I personally dislike and the way we go through the game is through a very unsatisfying main quest that, even though it has a great beginning and an epic battle at the end, it still lacks what I would consider essential: character writing and meaningful choices. But at the same time, I’ve always known it was only a matter of time before the hastily-put-together main quest of Skyrim would drive me crazy with its lack of player choice and options for role-play.

Hundreds of hours later and I’m still going through Bleak Falls Barrow only to test some mods or a build. Ever since I stepped out of that Helgen cart I knew I’ve just witnessed the beginning of a relationship with a great game.
